It is a hybrid of Trichocereus huarazensis Γ— Trichocereus scopulicola. Greg was originally grown from Misplant seed by Australian cactus grower Bon Glover, who named the standout seedling after his father. It inherits the classic smooth, plump, and heavily notched profile of its T. scopulicolaparentage. It was specifically selected and isolated as a named cultivar due to its unusual, stable variegation and mottled skin texture.
